The Africaid Trust is a registered NGO in South Africa.  It runs a programme called WhizzKids United which uses football as a tool to deliver HIV & AIDS prevention, care, treatment and support services to young people worldwide.

Job Description

The start date of this post is March 5, 2012. The time commitment for the post is 6 months to 1 year. However, if you cannot start on this date or can only work for a shorter period of time, then please contact us. 

The applicant will become a member of the Fundraising Team that coordinates all of WhizzKids United’s fundraising related activities.  In addition, the applicant will also be the official liaison between the Durban Head Office and the WhizzKids United Health Academy. The applicant will work alongside the CEO who oversees the Fundraising Team’s activities. The applicant will be responsible for:

  • Researching, tracking and writing fundraising proposals
  • Willing to learn how to innovatively use social media and online platforms to raise funding
  • Able to support, train and supervise local staff and volunteers of the WhizzKids United Health Academy in close coordination with the Departments of Health and Education, partner organizations and funding bodies
  • Working alongside the Health Academy to help achieve their objectives

 

Requirements/Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and hard-working person who is willing to work in a team-based organisation. The applicant should have a background in Fundraising or have excellent English written skills. The applicant should:

  • Have a Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline OR minimum one year's experience working in a development context
  • Be an excellent researcher and good English writer
  • Be able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Benefits/Salary

Voluntary, non-salaried position.

The main benefit to the applicant is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  Although the position is based mostly in the office, the applicant will be given the opportunity to visit the field and work directly with children as much as possible.

The applicant will become a member of the Programme Team which consists of three members and coordinates all WhizzKids United’s programme-related activities.  The applicant will work alongside another Programme Coordinator and report to a Programme Director who oversees the Programme Team’s activities. The applicant will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating programme planning, implementation and support in all project locations
  • Planning and conducting training workshops with a focus on HIV prevention and football training
  • Work closely with Life Skills Trainers who work in the field
Requirements/Qualifications

The applicant should:

  • Have a Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline OR minimum one year's experience working in a development context
  • Have a good understanding of English, both written and spoken
  • Be able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Ideally be passionate about football, and have some experience in football coaching
