Simphiwe Zuma accepted for UN Youth Leadership Camp in Switzerland
Wonderful news for our Counsellor and Life Skills Trainer Simphiwe Zuma, who has been selected by the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) to attend the 3rd Youth Leadership Camp 2012, which will take place from 23 September to 7 October 2012 in Magglingen, Switzerland.
In early 2012, the UNOSDP under the lead of Mr. Wilfried Lemke, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, have started the Youth Leadership Camp Initiative to bring young people from around the world together for a couple of weeks to learn about opportunities for youth and how they can make a difference in their own countries.
In his invitation to Simphiwe Zuma, the UN's project manager Jamie Laflamme describes the camps as a "great opportunity for you to learn the best practices on how you can better use sport to improve conditions in your community." Laflamme further: "You have been chosen because we believe that you have outstanding leadership potential and that you will contribute in a positive way to this camp."
It will be the first time for Simphiwe to leave South Africa and without a doubt a very unique experience. He will have the chance to exchange his experience as a young Counsellor, Life Skills Trainer and leader of his community in Edendale with the other participants from all over the world.
The camp will be the third of its kind, organised by the UNOSDP. The pilot camp took place in Doha, Qatar in January, when Khumbulani "Khumza" Buthelezi attended on behalf of WhizzKids United and the youth of South Africa. The second camp was hosted in Germany, by the city of Hennef.
