WhizzKids United has successfully launched a new partnership with the United Nations Association of South Africa (UNA-SA) to promote the UN Millennium Development Goals in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and support local activities.
The launch event with special guest Prof. Harold Herman, president of UNA-SA, took place at the WKU Health Academy in Edendale. Representatives from other KZN organisations, provincial departments and Edendale Hospital took the chance to learn about UNA-SA, WhizzKids United, the new partnership and discuss their participation. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the UN Millennium Development Goals by learners from Mthethomusha Primary School. For each goal, the students presented a play, poem or song and the audience loved their performances!
UNA-SA was founded to support the principles, goals and programmes of the United Nations, thus promoting peace and harmony and fostering economic, social, and cultural progress in South Africa. The main focus is on the Millennium Development Goals that were formulated in 2000 by all UN members to tackle the most challenging problems of our today’s world, like hunger and poverty, education, HIV/AIDS or environmental sustainability. As WhizzKids United supports seven of the eight Millennium Development Goals through their extraordinary work with youth and communities, the organisation was chosen to head the new KZN chapter.
The new partnership, that offers further chances of international support to local organisations, will help create a new wave of activism towards the Millennium Development Goals and the development of KZN. Already, the launch event was a great success and WhizzKids United wishes to thank all our team for their help and the learners for their great performance!
