- Africaid is founded by HIV Nurse Specialists Marcus McGilvray and Nicola Willis
2003:
- Africaid funds and builds a Youth Sports Centre/HIV Clinic in northern Ghana. Over 350 kids use the centre each day
- Africaid develops one of the first ARV training manuals for Health Professionals in South Africa. This manual has been used globally and translated into over five different languages
2004:
- Africaid develops and implements a Paediatric Palliative Care Training Manual for home-based carers for the RSA National Hospice Association. This work has been adopted globally
- Nicola moves to Zimbabwe to set up the most successful psychosocial support network for HIV positive kids in the world. Please see www.maruva.org
- The KZN Department of Health and Harvard Medical School invite Marcus to assist in the development an ARV patient pathway, Patient literacy programme and ARV training for Health Professionals for KwaZulu Natal Province. In the first year over 6 000 Health Professionals are trained and over 70 000 patients start life saving treatment.
- Africaid presents at the World AIDS Conference in Bangkok on how to successfully deliver ARV's in resource limited settings by training all health professionals in ARV delivery
2005:
- Africaid completes the development of WhizzKids United (formerly known as FIFFA KIDS) a revolutionary new approach to HIV prevention. One that uses football as an analogy to teach life skills to young people
2006
- WhizzKids United launches in Edendale, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa
- WhizzKids United is presented and received enthusiastically at the World AIDS Conference in Toronto and at the Clinton Global Summit in New York City
2007
- Africaid launches WhizzKids United Peer Education in Edendale, KZN
- WhizzKids United launches in Ghana
2008
- Africaid becomes a programme partner of FIFA’s Football for Hope movement
- Africaid partners with the KZN Premier’s Office to help roll out WhizzKids United province-wide
- WhizzKids United is invited to compete in a streetfootballworld network Germany. Seven WhizzKids are selected to take part and play in Nuremberg
- Africaid hosts a successful World AIDS Day tournament for WhizzKids United graduates at the International Convention Centre, Durban
- WhizzKids United now operates in four of KZN’s eleven districts: uMgungundlovu, eThekwini, uThungulu and iLembe
- WhizzKids United launches in Uganda
2009
- WhizzKids United is piloted in the United Kingdom with Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Charlton Athletic
- WhizzKids United launches in Australia, working with aboriginal children
- Over 10 000 children have enrolled in WhizzKids United programmes to date
- WhizzKids United life skills training continues to have a 100% attendance rate
- The first WhizzKids United Health Academy is built in Edendale, KZN and will launch in February 2010
