Spot The Ball Competition Winners

The delighted winners of the recent SPOT THE BALL competition receive their prizes from Marcus McGilvray at the WhizzKids United offices in Durban last Friday. We would like to thank our generous sponsors Protea Hotel Hluhluwe & Safaris, Spingbok Lodge and Elephant Rock Private Safari Lodge at Namibity Game Park for the two nights stay which also included all meals, two game drives in an open vehicle! Arts and Crafts Project
WhizzKids United Christmas Cards ?
At least this time there weren′t hoots of laughter and chuckles when I presented my new craft idea! Just as well the Australians have taught me to be very laid back!! (And I have a thick South African skin anyway!!!) The idea is to teach some of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children at the Health Academy to make Christmas cards for our sponsors and business partners. I made a few samples of cards for the Team Meeting this morning - and the idea was well received by the whole team. About an hour later the President of our Rotary Club popped into the office to meet Marcus and offered us a small sponsorship for the new project. So - it′s all systems go for the new Health Academy craft project starting mid-October. Gugu (our Health Academy Administrative Manager) was also very excited about the project and had already has spoken to some of the volunteers who were interested in working with kids doing arts and crafts. Although the Health Academy is designed to provide health acre to adolescents, the reality of life in South Africa means that many of our clients have children or are responsible for the care of their younger siblings. This means that often there are younger kids spending time at the Academy. One of our Edendale trainers, Nathi, wants to start offering similar craft lessons to two groups of young children as well as a way to keep them busy whilst their older siblings (or their parents) receive treatment or psychosocial support..
