And the winner is… WhizzKids United!
When guests visit us at the Health Academy we often hear how impressed they are by the level of innovation that we apply in all our programmes – it feels good to hear that. It feels even better when our work gets recognized with awards. That happened this month.
This year, WhizzKids United and our Game Changers programme received the MEC’s Annual Service Excellence Award (MASEA) in the category ‘Innovation and Best Pratice’.
The award was given by the Honourable MEC for Health Dr Dlhomo, who has been a big fan of WhizzKids United since he visited our Health Academy last year. The MASEA event took place on 15 May at the ICC Durban and it felt like the Oscars of the Public Health Care sector.
The venue was packed with officials from The Department of Health, all major hospitals and clinics in the province, representatives of other government departments and people doing wonderful work in making sure people receive the necessary health services when needed. WhizzKids United was lauded for the complex package of services provided at our Health Academy in general and Game Changers in particular, a programme which provides young adults with much needed leadership and employability skills.
We are extremely proud to see our work recognized on such a high level and we understand this as motivation to keep the high standards of our work up and remain on the forefront of developing better ways of providing adolescent friendly health, education and empowerment services.
